I have no garage space for a ZR-1, I can't leave something like this parked in the driveway to get rained on.

The Zr1 is VERY reliable... This one is a bit stupid though... way too low and thin wheels on what is already considered stock as the most unconfortable Corvette ever made (I know I have a LT1... it's bad lol)à

The problem with the Zr1 is that it requires drastic maintenance. You HAVE to maintain it and change stuff regulary. Other than that, it holds the record for the longest distance driven over 24h with something like 6500miles at an average speed of 170mph... Not bad for reliability huh ;)

But yeah, get a LT1 or a LT4 instead, they are much easier to deal with and you will have just as much fun, I promiss you :)

If I was buying an LT4 car it'd be a grand sport and if I was buying an LT1 anything it'd be a 96 impala SS, I have no interest in the "lesser" C4's I always thought the ZR-1's and GS' were cool. But the GS' is really really rare, I've seen one in person to date.

Any car capable of 0 to 60 in 5.1s (manual trans) for under 10k$ and that can keep you glued to your seat in 4th gear is in no way a "lesser" car to me ;)

It's a SBC so you can sneeze on it and it'll make stupid power plus you can fix it with a hammer.

And as far as I'm concerned, choosing a sedan with no manual transmission available over a two seater sports car with a manual gearbox... Meh, not Jalop :)

The back rims are so deep you could curl up and take a nap on the lip though if needed- so that's a plus.

These have to start appreciating soon. I say if you want one (and can really get it for $10k), the time is now.

hah I don't know about 10k, I've seen them around the 15-25 range unless its stupid low miles (theirs a 600 mile car or something on ebay for 90 grand)

You're not wrong though, they'll probably go up in value.

My view on this is that it's a 30k$ car with a plastic body. If there is one thing it does not care about... it's rain. I would not mind owning one and letting it sleep in my street... My LT1 did very well under 2 feet of snow and it still looks new today. Sure it's dirty, but really who cares about the look? :)

I think about this all the time. It would be more stock than this one though.

I guess the plastic does help eh? I have the truck to drive when it rains but I'd still feel weird about leaving a ZR-1 out in the weather lol

I guess if we get any hurricanes I could shuffle it down to my brothers house and put his GF's leased escape outside. The BMW already kicked her escape out of the garage a few times.

Yeah I understand what you mean... But as far as I'm concerned, I don't care, it would sleep in the street...

This is still a car that sells for less than a 2014 Altima... Sure it's nice and fun and makes people drool over. But it's still a car cheaper than a 2014 Nissan Altima

hey theirs enough car hipsters around here who will argue for RWD BOF V8 sedans... Look how many people think brown wagons are the best thing since sliced bread

I try to stick to the top of the scale when buying things and so far I've been successful at it.

Ah yes the small child unit of measure. I remember arriving at work once (call center... draw your own following conclusions) and there was a group taking pictures of dollar bills on the lip of some new rims. Im guessing being able to fit a bill was a new status symbol.

my grandpa sedan is a low 12 second car that'll be in the high 11's by this fall so a 13 sec 90's car isn't stupendous to me. A ZR-1 is a 12sec car in stock trim IIRC.

its a 405hp 6spd manual car that runs high 12's and retails for less than a new altima, that is a hell of a bargain if I've ever heard one

Kinja'd!!! Flavien Vidal > offroadkarter

I don't know... I would just NEVER pick an automtic anything over a manual car... I would take a manual jetta over an LT1-anything automatic. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. I just freaking HATE automtic.

Don't worry I hate brown wagons too (unless it's a brown Volvo 850R of course). I think they are jsut a mix between euro-wannabe-jalopreaders-hipsters and actual proper car entousiast. This ridiculous brown wagon thing will pass don't worry :)

Is it an automatic? If it is, then no thanks :)

I have NOTHING against sedans... unless they are automatic

most sedans are automatics, hell most cars are automatics, this car never had a manual option so its not like I really had a choice. a T-56 magnum swap kit is over 5000 dollars which is something I am going to invest in, just not tomorrow. I could probably buy a whole C4 Crossfire Injection car for that much.

well, less than a new altima... you found a lower end one... Good luck finding a 405hp at this price. 25K$ is pretty much the minimum for a 405hp version... 20k$ is minimum for a 375hp one.

My car is a 9500$ corvette that does 0 to 60 in 5.1s and that has more torque than any porsche under 150000$ produced in the 2000s... It has the same 6 speed manual and the same brakes as the ZR1, from stock. :)

Not really lesser than anything hey :)

You can just put a ZR1 badge and a 3rd brake light on mine if you want... it will then be the exact same car, minus the maintenance headaches :)

Kinja'd!!! Flavien Vidal > offroadkarter
06/13/2014 at 00:24

Kinja'd!!!0

I would not touch a crossfire corvette though :)

And as far as most sedans being autos, well, it's for the US... In Europe (where I'm from) sedans are all by a huge majority manual

06/13/2014 at 00:38

yeah we dont have that option here because most americans are to retarded to know how to work a third pedal. I know automatics are like a taboo in europe and your replies reinforce that lol

LT1 is certainly a bit of an underrated motor but it is not hammer fixable. It's a GEN II with reverse flow cooling and a lot of specific stuff. Crank hub bolt is one example.

The LT1 vs LT4 stuff is pretty laughable to me, since all the LT4 really has over an LT1 is looks. For the price difference you can have a much stronger LT1 making significantly more power.
